A had his recheck today. They drew blood and he did his Hulk thing. The hospital called back a couple of hours later to tell me his platelets were low again (5,000) and that he would need to come in for another dose of WinRho. Three and a half hours later, he had been poked 3 times in his arm (one successfully) and a blown vein in his foot from an unsuccessful poke. Sadly, the guy that does really well with taking A's blood can't put in IVs... which is why he was getting poked so much. It's not fun holding A when he's the Hulk. It was 15 minutes to put in the WinRho, and then an hour with a bolus drip. They gave him a higher dosage this time (800), hoping that it will sustain higher platelets for a longer time than this last week. If it doesn't work out, the next step is to have IVIG, which is another IV med... that takes 3-5 hours to drip in, which sounds to me like he would need a hospital stay. I don't know how well I could get him to sit cooperatively for 3-5 hours!
We have another recheck on Tuesday.
